Practical experiments:
In order to capture suspense/ mystery I had played around with several different copyright free audio clips which definitely enhance my movies watching experience.
Here’s some of the audio I played around with and got from this website here:

Some behind the scenes(Development)-
Planning for Filming (Q&A)-
Q- What shots will I film?
A- I will shoot most of the shots in my storyboard and some extras not included.
Q- What are the locations I’m going to film?
A- Most, if not all of the shots will be shot at my apartment.
Q- Who will be acting?
A- Me and my sister
Q-Who’s my crew?
A- Me and my sister
Q- Timings when i’m going to film?-
A- The optimal timing for me to film is during the daytime in order to get light in my shots, so during 10am-5pm.
Rough Cut
Film Techniques(Research)-
Editing Techniques-
Jump Cut- A jump cut is when the editor is jumping forward in time.
Here’s an example of a Jump Cut. For one of my scenes, I will have Bishop burning the doll and because the footage is so long, i will use jump cuts to shorten the length, but still capture the general idea of what i want portrayed.
My Storyboard(Changes)
- My storyboard is lacking a lot of audio, which I will add while I am doing my editing (so i’m not that concerned with the audio that much).
- Scene changes- For the scene leading up to Bishop discovering the doll in the cabinet, in order to justify why Bishop decided to look up there I might decide to add some sound effects which is coming from the top cabinet. Other changes I will make is possibly cutting some of the scenes which aren’t entirely necessary (in order to ensure that I don’t go over the film limit being 6 mins). For the transition scenes, instead of having the blank screen with white text i’ll have the time and date be displayed on Bishop’s phone (haven’t fully thought of the transition, but I have a general idea of what I want to do). For shot #26 instead of Bishop checking to see if the doll is in the trash I will have Bishop throwing away some chips or candy he just finished eating (and then he’ll notice that the doll is not in the trash)(I will do this so that Bishop has a reason to notice the doll not being in the trash, instead of randomly thinking that the doll is haunted).
- Script- I have some script changes to do because my story has changed a little bit.

Story:
This digital story is of a video game opening, although it doesn’t directly relate to my film there’s still that horror aspect which I can relate to. The opening starts off casually, with a girl and her father mingling, but tension starts to arise the following night when the girl wakes up not knowing where her father is, when she does find him he’s loading his gun to inevitably shoot some sort of zombie which just barged into their glass door. They leave their house and go to their car, when they start driving they see the chaos which is taking place in their town (burning buildings, zombies eating people). Their drive comes to a halt though, when they’re struck by another car. Once they’ve finished struggling to get out they proceed to walk down a road where they’re met with some man in a uniform who shoots at them both. The end scene is the father holding is daughter who died after getting shot.
Audience:
This video game opening is definitely intended for mature audiences (adults) because there is a supreme sense of realism (graphics, violence) and the story itself, a man who had just lost his daughter who he loved deeply.
Message:
The purpose of this opening is to give the person who’s playing an idea of what’s going on in the game and an understanding of what the father is going through.
Style/Genre-
This opening scene is definitely horror, as there is extreme violence and zombies. The sounds in the film were excellent as they helped put the person who’s playing the game into the scene itself, creating better immersion.
Overall thoughts-
I thought the opening scene was really good, all the audio/sounds and the story itself. As far as improvements, I cannot think of any.
Week 7 (Storyboard) incomplete
Week 8 – presentation

In week 8 I had presented Head Room & Lead Room. Head room is the distance between the persons head and top frame, in order to get the most optimal shot it is recommended that you get the persons eyes in the top corner third of the frame. Lead room is the ‘dramatic energy’ which is being channeled by the actor, for example, the actor is reading a book, in order to capture the ‘energy’ from the person looking on the right side, it’s best to have their face on the left side of the frame and not the right side as seen on the bottom.
Here’s a link to a video which explains the two concepts quite well:
